Pony Car
Horses make me laugh. I don’t know what it is about the word, or the way they look to me, but there’s just something funny about them. It’s the ultimate comedy animal. Such goofy, long faces, knobby knees, names like “Father’s Ambivalence,” and the word “horse” itself blend together to make an instant punchline.
You want something to be funnier? Put a horse in it.
Funeral? Horse.
Wedding? Horse.
Swimming pool? Horse.
The answer is always horse.
This drawing was both an exercise in horse doodling, but also in trying to blend the way I draw with the photograph I used in the background. The photograph was selected after I’d already inked and coloured the drawing, so the lighting doesn’t exactly match up… but something about the way the horse looked with traffic lights behind him made me laugh.
